Brewers of fine ales and porters

WELCOME TO BRYSONS

CREWS from Morecambe’s lifeboat station were at the Midland Hotel on Thursday for a launch of an entirely different kind. The brave men and women from the Morecambe branch of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution were there to support a new beer produced by the town's Brysons Brewery to help raise funds for the RNLI.

The Lifesaver Bitter was inspired by the work of the RNLI's Morecambe lifeboat volunteers, particularly the part they played during the 2004 Morecambe Bay cockling disaster, when 23 Chinese cocklers lost their lives.

Five pence from every pint of beer sold will be donated to the lifeboat charity, said George Palmer, Bryson's head brewer. "The Morecambe RNLI crew played an incredible part in the cockling disaster, putting their own lives at risk," said George. "Here at Brysons Brewery – just a couple of miles from the scene of the tragedy – we can not think of a better charity to support. "We hope that the sales of the Lifesaver Bitter, both regionally and nationally can, like the RNLI crews, make a real difference to those who need help at sea."
The Lifesaver Bitter, which has a distinctive RNLI lifeboat design on its label, is a rich golden beer with a floral honey aroma and a taste that combines bitterness with soft fruit.
Michael Guy, Morecambe RNLI lifeboat operations manager, aid: "Everyone at Morecambe RNLI lifeboat station was thrilled when we heard about the Lifesaver Bitter. This is an extremely generous gesture by Brysons Brewery and I'm sure the beer will be a great success. "The RNLI is funded by voluntary donations and so the funds raised from the sale of Lifesaver Bitter will play an important part in helping our volunteer lifeboat men and women save lives at sea."
VIPs including BBC Cash In The Attic's Paul Hayes joined George and lifeboat crew members at the Midland on Thursday night for a celebratory tasting.
Lifesaver Bitter will be available as a draught beer in selected pubs across the country and also in a special presentation pack which can be bought direct from Brysons. For more information telephone 01524 39481 or visit www.baywines.co.uk
